Abstract [en]

The MATCH (Multi-scale Atmospheric Transport and Chemistry) modelling system has been used as the modelling platform for regional-scale sea salt simulations. A new model version for sea salt aerosols has been constructed and assessed. This study presents the model concept and shows that the model is capable of simulating sea salt on a regional scale. The model agrees well with observations, particularly in terms of the sea salt mass concentrations at certain locations in Northern Europe. The observed wet fluxes are generally under-predicted due in part to systematic under-prediction of precipitation by the meteorological model used to drive MATCH. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd.
